Admittedly I’ve been hard on TJ this offseason, I counted him out and dismissed the idea of him being Auburn’s starting QB against Mercer well before spring practice commenced and Zac Calzada ever even took a meaningful rep this fall.
Yet here we are at game week and TJ sits alone atop the depth chart having earned his position by outperforming not 1 but 2 transfer Quarterbacks brought in with the idea that they would replace him as Auburn’s starting Quarterback. TJ has done this the right way and has never once lashed out on social media at people like me who had all but written him off and constantly critiqued his every throw.
Hearing him in the press conference today answering questions I came away impressed and with this conclusion, this kids a leader and he’s got some major stones. I honestly have no clue how he’ll actually perform this fall (though I’m openly rooting for the kid), but TJ’s story reminds me that there are few absolutes in life. Facing adversity is what truly makes a man a man, and watching this young man go through the fire this offseason has truly made me a fan of his and he’s got my ultimate respect. War Damn TeeJay, and give them hell this Saturday brother!
