Each year, Auburn (and all schools) but submit to the NCAA a report that details its revenues and expenditures.

I think of it as Auburn "P and L" statement. Not sure how accurate it is, but this is what Auburn tells the NCAA about its financial situation.

This report is for the 2014-15 academic year.

Sources of revenue for the athletic department (rounded):

  • Ticket sales: $30 million
  • Student fees: $4.5 million
  • Direct institutional support: $1.8 million
  • Transfers to Institution: (-$2.1 million)
  • Guarantees (participation in away games): $500,000
  • Contributions: $37 million
  • In-kind: $55,000
  • Media rights: $27 million
  • NCAA distributions: $2.2 million
  • Conference distribution (excluding media and bowl): $8.7 million

Auburn spent $6,728,710 on football assistant coach salaries and $4,486,760 on Gus Malzahn.

Auburn spent $3,637,141 on severance payments to former football coaches.

Auburn spent $1,015,017 on severance payments to former basketball coaches.

Auburn football spent $1.1 million on recruiting and $1.06 million on travel.

Auburn men's basketball spent $226,000 on recruiting and $831,000 on travel.

Auburn's official cost of attendance is $29,164 for in-state students, $46,348 for out-of-state students.

Auburn University's total operational expenses for FY14 was $949,000,000.
