Been working on this a little bit more while sick past week

Looking at wing players and what stands out among succesful transfers across the league and in the SEC specifically at the wing position (sorry for low resolution in imgur albums. need to open it in a new tab by clicking on pictures, delete everything from "#" onward in the web address individually for higher resolution)

Heres the transfer PG/CG/WingG from last season that made the top 150 players from this season in their 1st season at their new school

top PG/CG/WingG in the SEC from the past 5 season =

things we probably need from a starting caliber wing player next year = 1.) perimeter shooting2.) lower usage 3.) rebounding 4.) shots at rim

in that order from priority

some indicators for jumps in shooting from year 1 to year 2 (specifically those rare 40% 3pt shooters) IMO

= 1.) FT shooting 2.) PRPG 3.) 2pt% 4.) lower usage 5.) 3pt shooting 6.) low to% 7.) >6'2

tried to sort these in order of priority

the interesting thing on these impact transfers is that the % jump to 40% usually doesnt come from high % shooters in the previous year. most of the time its like a 32% shooter jumps to 40%

the main thing that stands out is good ft shooters typically improve the most. its not always true but its got a strong correlation for sure

what parameters id set looking at the portal players for a perimeter shooting wing guard in the portal with a chance to improve this team

= 1.) >80% ft shooter 2.) PRPG >3.0 3.) >40% from 2pt 4.) <21% usage 5.) 32-35% from 3pt at least 6.) <12% to 7. >6'2 (we need some length on the wing next season for sure)

also look at 3pa >100

when looking through the top players, our coaches did a great job scouting these wing players but unfortunate in how it played out (terrance shannon was one of the few Power 5 to Power 5 guys that was succesful, Justin Powell, Trey Alexander, even guys like Landers Nolley who we were in contact with) so im not really worried about us scouting the right guys. just gotta win the recruiting battle

guys i think from last years portal that would fit perfectly for what auburn needs this season = souley boum (absolute perfect fit), terrence shannon, will richard, erik stevenson. those are the parameters to look for

also gotta keep in mind Bruce and co love to look at Defensive rating stats for wing guards and are very biased towards those (D-PRPG is a decent indicator that uses a mix of boxplus minus with the other defensive stats)

guys in portal i think fit that right now (only 38 guys with >35% minutes played in the portal right now so small sample size. Wojcik from Brown that we have been in contact is the best in the portal here)

probably in this order. last thing to consider is based on how roster is shaping out, we'll probably lean to a guard with 1 year maybe 2 left..

sounds like this guy will hit the portal soon too...

he's gonna want a lotta playing time though for sure. think he'd be a good fit for what we need though.

gonna be a fun post season and a lotta time to look at the portal after though! wanted to get this out early this week since portal should explode over the next couple of days WDE
