Tells the story of Dell Glover (“ADEG”) from Shelby, NC and his role in evolving technology and how we consume music. This is about the Fraunhofer codec, music piracy, and how it completely changed the game, but the spin on this story is only something that could be properly reflected upon nearly two decades later…

New Yorker article from 2015: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/04/27/the-man-who-broke-the-music-business

Docuseries trailer:

There was a perfect convergence of growing accessibility to broadband internet, a compression codec that changed everything for digital music files, and the birth of peer-to-peer file sharing networks that paved the way to what would become Apple Music, Spotify, and SoundCloud and even further into Netflix, Hulu, and other visual media streaming services. The docuseries calls them pirates but asks if they should be called pioneers.
