Football season is upon us, which means it’s time for BASKETBALL RECRUITING to take its next steps as well.

Auburn already has one player committed to its Class of 2023, point guard Aden Holloway, and he’ll be making an official visit this weekend.

He’ll be joined this weekend by sensational 2024 guard Labaron Philon from Baker High in Mobile. Philon balled out at one of Auburn’s team camps this summer at told us at the time that Auburn would be a major player in his recruitment. True to his word, Philon will be taking an official visit to check out the Tigers’ program this weekend.

This feels like another Auburn-Alabama showdown on the recruiting front, though Philon’s national profile is growing.

Philon is an electric, quick-twitch attacker who’s at his best in transition. He’s also a good shooter, however.

Auburn basketball will be making in-home visits the weekend of the San Jose State game.

Things will change for the Penn State game one week later, however.

The Tigers are scheduled to play host to a pair of 4-star studs from the Class of 2024 on Sept. 17:

Montverde players generally make few visits once they begin season preparations, so we’ll like Queen as “probable“ for his visit — at least for now.

Ira Bowman is Pettiford’s primary recruiter; Wes Flanigan is serving that role for Queen.

Auburn also is generating interest from Class of 2024 big man Flory Bidunga from Kokomo, Indiana. He plays for the esteemed Indiana Elite AAU team. Assistant coach Steven Pearl is Bidunga‘s primary recruiter.

Bidunga rapidly is moving up Rivals’ Class of 2024 board — with national analyst Rob Cassidy opining recently that Bidunga could emerge as the network’s top overall prospect at some point. Steven and Bruce Pearl have been working on this recruitment together, which signals (to me) just how much value they place on Bidunga. Will this early attention give the Tigers an advantage later on? That’s still to be determined.
