I feel like this is an overblown narrative.

1. NFL teams are getting less and less likely to go to the college ranks for HC hires due to all the qualified candidates as OCs and DCs in the NFL and the NFL's love of retread former HC hires...especially after the massive failures of Urban and Rhule recently. The biggest success being Pete Carroll and Harbaugh (who is now back in College for the foreseeable future).

2. If Kiffin is making $11+ million at Auburn, he would be the 3rd highest paid coach in the NFL. Only Belichick and McVay make more than that. Very few NFL teams are going to pay a college coach that much when they have other options. Especially a college coach who already failed spectacularly in the NFL.

So it comes down to Lane wanting to live in a big city so he can enjoy his activities more surreptitiously, and/or wanting to prove his Raiders failure was a fluke. I just don't see it.
