Just imagine being Tsutomu Yamaguchi. This guy had been on a work trip in Hiroshima for three months. The morning he was leaving to return home he was on his way to the train station when he realized he had forgotten his ID and needed to go back to his workplace and get it. On his way there, the Enola Gay dropped Little Boy and Yamaguchi got hit by the atomic bomb blast. He actually saw the plane in the sky when it dropped the bomb. He was knocked down, temporarily blinded, and burned. His eardrums were ruptured. He made it to a bomb shelter where he stayed overnight and then returned to his hometown and still reported to work three days later...in Nagasaki. While at work that morning, he was telling his supervisor what had happened to him in Hiroshima when the Fat Man atomic bomb exploded over the city. This time he was not injured by the blast and only had to deal with fever and vomiting, presumably from radiation sickness. Despite being only a couple of miles from ground zero for both atomic explosions, he survived. Yamaguchi was 29-years old when he survived two atomic bomb blasts. He later had long term health issues from the radiation but he had two daughters and lived a long and relatively normal life and was 93-years-old when he died. So when you are going through a rough patch in life, just remember this guy and know that it could be worse and that things can get better.
