Western casuals seem to accept the zionist viewpoint with little to no critical debate. Many conflate zionism with Judaism itself and see no separation. Why is this attitude so pervasive?
**This is an attempt to dicuss western perceptions of zionist views and not at allll any attempt to rationalize terror**
Some enlightening quotes from an interview I just watched with Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss:
(*edit this rabbi is an orthodox jew and part of the Haredi sect which believes israel can only be created miraculously thru an act of god. He doesn't represent mainstream jews at all... it's a fringe position, but still worth the listen.)
Transcript below:
Judaism is a religion of 3000 years while Zionism has existed for 150 years.
Zionism is nationalism, a political movement a desire for land and material wealth. It was started by non religious jews using the name Israel and the star of David and claiming it is land given to them by God.
Those who are true to the Torah stand up adamantly refuting this. The Torah clearly states we shall not kill or steal. The whole concept of zionism is antithetical to the Torah.
Since this zionism concept eventually took hold, there has been endless bloodshed. Hate has grown 1000 fold. It's a wedge between jews and muslims and has brought death and suffering to Palestinians and jews.
What happened Saturday was shocking to the world but the world doesn't seem to regard that almost everyday for the last 75 years there has been suffering from Palestinian people.
But we as Jews do regard this..we see this and it devastates us, and we say, this is clearly a rebellion against God, and it hurts us more than usual because it's being done in our name.
These rabbis in the fringe settlement communities are the ones who bought into this tale that it's God's wish. But the very religious among us are dead set against this. We cry with the Palestinians.
Daily atrocities and bombings of Palestinians, and calling them animals and sub human terrorists is all in the name of confusion and to cover the totally illegitimate occupation.
We lived together for hundreds of years in Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, Iraq and Iran. Religious jews and religious muslims side by side without any human rights groups watching over us to protect us. We lived together, played together, we babysat each other's children.
All that's changed is the introduction of zionism. Since that started, and not in 1948 but in the 1890s, it has been nothing but death and suffering.
Ben Gvir and the others are coming from Mizrahi. That is the zionist sect. There are many Jewish voices around the world that reject this. But it's increasingly more difficult.
There is fear of repurcussions from zionist..in Jerusalem, Al quds, Palestine, even Manhattan...they are vicious. People get killed and arrested. There's a reason there is less of this voice you hear even though our communities are full of opposition to zionism.
We can only plead with world leaders and world citizens that this suffering an injustice in Palestine must be addressed. We must stop it. We as jews are crying for them.
The media doesn't cover it because they know they will be accused of being anti Semitic. We apologize for what's being done in the name of Judaism.
