Missed free throws, turnovers, player ejected, so many missed opportunities at the end. It was painful to watch and a bit hard to believe. That being said, it’s the nature of sports especially in a single elimination tournament. One bad game, one off day and it’s over. Thats one of the reasons the Virginia game still hits hard. You just don’t know when you’ll be back, if ever.
I understand the anger of fans. That’s why we are fans but I don’t understand the anger directed at individuals. I would assume many if not most of you have played some level of sports. I would encourage you to remember the worst loss of that time. The most pain you experienced while playing. I’ve cried twice at a sporting event. Once was when Bo went over the top and we beat Bama for the first time in 10 years. The other was the night I played my last football game in High School. We lost a playoff game and in an instant, it was over. I played a little baseball in college but that night sitting out on the field with a couple of buddies, we cried like babies. It hurts and these guys are hurting.
As much as it hurts as fans, please remember how bad those guys are hurting. Those guys who missed free throws or couldn’t get that tip in to fall at the end. They are the ones in the arena. They suffered a shocking loss. Maybe we can step outside of our self pity and be others oriented. Have some compassion for those guys and coaches.
I know, I know, this is weak and preachy and whatever other things you want to say about me. I’m fine with all that. I’m just trying to offer perspective. This has been a fun team to watch and follow all year. They care about each other and that’s been obvious. I hope we can care a bit about them as well, instead of ourselves and how we feel.
Anyway, yesterday was rough but shockingly, the sun came up this morning and we have a new day to make the most of. If being an Auburn fan was easy, it wouldn’t take such high quality people to do it. Yall have a great day and War Eagle!
