I doubt it will happen anytime soon, but I would love to see a movie that doesn't paint all southerners as a bunch of slave owning racist trash, but rather showing that 97% of the army didn't even own a dang human being and was only fighting for their state and their way of life.
I would love to see one showing the true sides of Jackson, Lee, Grant, Sherman (And his hatred of what he was doing to his beloved south.), Longstreet, Hill, Forrest (if they could stay away from the KKK angle for five minutes, they would have a legendary character for a movie.)... The stories of the epic character these men possessed are too good to be shrouded away because of rustled jims...
If I was a billionaire and had money to spend and not really care if they made money or the PC backlash... I would make a series of movies around the main generals and the biggest stories of the civil war... not for money, but to tell the story in a manner that allows anyone who wants to learn about the most pivotal time in our nation's history to do just that. I think it would be a beautiful movie, especially because we have most of the battlefield's preserved to almost the exact condition that they were on the day of the actual conflict. We have thousands of passionate actors that would most definitely do it for little to no pay just because they too want to tell the real story. There is also a series of mainstream hollywood actors that would totally play the parts without some PC bullshit apology angle. We have special effects now that would allow us to show how gruesome it was.
I just saw the Matthew McConagay movie... I almost walked out so many times because of the inaccuracies, but thought I would lowded as a racist dickhole for leaving.
