Why is bass fishing so difficult relative to fishing for crappie, blue gill, and catfish?

I haven’t fished in many years but I’ve always wondered this.

Crappie and Blue Gill will nibble on anything. You can catch 20 Blue Gill in an afternoon with some bread rolled onto a hook. Same with crappie, if I recall correctly. And catfish, too: just throw some chicken liver on a hook and catch dumbass catfish after dumbass catfish.

Why are bass different? You’ve gotta use this specific lure with this specific jig with this specific spinner at this specific time of year in this specific weather condition to have any success. I don’t get it.

Are they just smarter than all of the other fish?
