When will 8 ball be changed or bant?

I like playing pool occasionally. The most popular pool game amongst common players (not pros) is probably 8 ball.

For those not in the know, you win when you sink the eight ball, which is black, with a white ball.

Now before the last few weeks, it absolutely never occurred to me this could be construed as racist, but now?

I personally don't care if they change the cue ball to black and the 8 ball to white, but please don't get rid of 8 ball.

Is this a reasonable request, or am I racist?
