Ohio State let the clock tick to 2 minutes on 1st down Oregon's ball on the goal line. Then started taking timeouts afterwards on 2nd and 3rd down after the 2 minute timeout. If they had taken the timeouts on 1st and 2nd down though, and then probably hit the 2 minute by the 3rd down play, they would have more clock on the board.
In this case, it's a difference of maybe like 10 seconds or so, not a huge deal. But, this seems like really basic math to me, if you're trying to preserve as much clock as you can for when your offense gets the ball back.
