The scrimmage was pretty yucky for the QBs and WRs. Thorne missed a wide open Fairweather in the endzone for a TD. But Fair dropped an easy TD and one of the TEs dropped a dart for a TD. Kelly dropped the first pass of the scrimmage from Thorne and Riley dropped a bullet up the seam from Thorne. Thorne made some great throws on third down including picking up a big first down the play before Alston broke his TD run. Fairweather is the real deal and Thorne found him often on third down. Ashord was hit or miss and the offense was more run heavy when he was in. His first pass of the scrimmage missed by 10 yards and you're thinking here we go again. He made a nice play when he rolled the pocket and found Mardner for a TD in the corner. His best "QB" play was a check down to Kelly for two yards that picked up 12. He missed a wide open WR on a post route by 20 yards. He hit a DB in the numbers on a corner blitz and panicked at least half the times he dropped back. The slant to Hooks for a big gain was a 50/50 ball which can't happen on a slant. I think there was some improvement in his play but it wasn't much. It was a scrimmage and it appeared the coaches put Ashford in situations that would make him comfortable. Not many if any first down throws with Ashford. The defense was vanilla for the most part. Scrimmages are a controlled environment so it's hard to take tons away from it without knowing what the coaches are doing internally. Offense still appears hard for Auburn.
exhibit A from coach PUFFY here!!

Thorne had an important throw to Fairweather for a third-down conversion.

Thorne gets another conversion by hitting Fairweather.

exhibit B from JGT scrimmage reports!

i think we gotta change our mindset with coach FREEZE vs other auburn coaches

we got too much buzz on TOUCHDOWNS when coach freezy likes FIRST DOWNS and KNOWIN THE PLAYBOOK

does the qb move the chains? does he understand the offense? does he communicate? is he throwin it to the right spots?

one theme ive noticed with reportin on THORNE in practice is that someones sayin hes always talkin to receivers afta the rep and sayin where they should be or where hes throwin. always communicatin with the coaches. havent seen it talked about much with the other qbs

thats just my opinion tho! what do yall think??
