Since someone has already posted some of StatTiger's stats, I don't want to impose "stat fatigue" on you all, but I did want to point out things. I want to preface this and say something quite controversial...JJ gets way too much blame.

Play Calling Mix-Up Was Quite Different
  • Last week on first down, we ran the ball 90% of the time..this week, that number dropped to only 71%..see the next section below for the reason why.
  • On second and long, we passed 73% (8/11) compared to 100% against Louisville (6/6). We went 6/8 for 114 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. On the flip side, we were horrendous running the ball on second and long, rushing 3x for only 3 yards total.
  • We passed 75% of the time (9/12) on third and ran 3x. We actually converted all 3x that we rushed the ball on third.
Most Disturbing Statistic - running stats on 1st and 2nd downs through the first three quarters.
  • Sure, our overall YPC was 4.3, only down a yard overall from last week. When you break it down by quarter, you find that our average rushing YPC through the first 3 quarters was 3.1 YPC. That is horrific. In the fourth, our YPC went up to 8.9. While that's good news in that we were clutch at a key time, it's more worrisome in that it could indicate laziness/complacency.
  • Through the first 3 quarters, our average rush on 1st down was also 3.1. Our average rush on 2nd was only 3.0 while our 3rd down rushing was quite good at 6.0. Pretty much an exact flip from last week.
LEAVE PEYTON IN!
  • Peyton Barber was our 4th quarter hero, rushed 6x for 65 yards in the 4th quarter (10.8YPC). Up to then, he was still our most serviceable back, rushing 15x for 52 yards. Replacing him in the 4th had disastrous results - a redzone fumble by Roc Thomas and a 1 yard loss by Kerryon Johnson, which was immediately followed by an INT. Why did we take out Barber?!
JJ (and Auburn) Did Better on Third Downs
  • Overall, we went 7/12 on third down, compared to 4/13 last week. No INTs and no penalties. Good work.
  • On third down, JJ went 4/9 for 42 yds, 1 TD, no INTs. Interestingly enough, he went 2/3 on third and long (compared to 1/5 last week) yet went 2/6 on short-to-mid range third downs. 1 of those short-to-mid range completions was the TD pass to Melvin Ray to win the game. Comparatively, JJ went 2/6 for 19 yards and 2 INTs on third downs (1/5 on long distance) last week..I'll take it.
  • JJ did a pretty good job of spreading the ball around on 3rd down, throwing to Melvin Ray, Duke and Peyton.
  • 3 of JJ's 4 third down completions came on third and longs, of which the drive resulted in a TD. Clutch plays from him.
  • Despite our issues running on first and second down, we rushed very well on third down, rushing 3x for 18 yards (6.0YPC), all short-to-mid, and converted all three times. Good job.

Not Surprising - Scoring/Non-Scoring Drives Have 1 Same Thing in Common as Last Week

  • No penalties on scoring drives.

Spread the ball around more!
  • JJ passed to Ricardo Louis 13x of 32 attempts, completing 10. Interestingly enough, JJ only (officially) targeted RL 1x on 3rd down, resulting in an incompletion. While that's great, why aren't we throwing to Duke, Melvin or other guys on 1st and 2nd?
