Tldr: Cal’s O stinks, I doubt Ott will play, Cal had no deep threat. On D their DBs are meh but their front 7 is decent vs. the run.
UCD O vs Cal D
UCD O vs Cal D
- UCD moved the ball well in the first half, just could not finish drives. UCD did not punt in the first half.
- On the day, UCD had drives end with missed FG, TO on downs 2x, and 3 picks
- Cal had a bunch of missed tackles
- Cal D dominated 2nd half with aggressive play, dared UCD to throw downfield and UCD couldn’t
- Cal had zero sacks even with the 2nd half pressure
- UCD had more rushing yards, more total yards, more first downs than Cal. Yikes.
- Cal ran short inside passes and bubble screens all game long. Only saw 1 deep pass attempt. QB gonna get his WRs kilt with the high passes on crossing routes.
- They have 2 transfer WRs that did not play last week.
- Cal rushed for 102 on 38 attempts. 2.7 ypc even with Ott at RB most of the game.
- OL got zero push, even in 4th q. could not move the ball on the ground all game. Harsin-like OL
- Cal went almost 27 game minutes without a first down, finally went for a 4th and 4 to end the streak mid 3rd Q.
- Cal running tempo when they can.
- Ott hurt, backup RB also hurt his hand, 3 Ols hurt (1 came back), other 2 never played. 2 WRs got banged up.
- Ott on the sidelines in a lot of pain, very frustrated. Sideline reporter said he was crying(?). Can barely walk at end of game. Doubt we see him Saturday, or if we do, he's gonna be full of pain killers.
- Cal's last TD was on 4th and goal from the 2, looked like it bounced off the ground during the catch, but no replay
- Cal went for 4th down several times very late in the game. Really weird decisions.
- By far most of their yards were after the UCD team wore down in the 2nd half.
- UCD gave up a kickoff TD
