Someone asked on Thursday if American Pharoah could win.
His response was dead on accurate.
He added to it after the after starting places were drawn.
"Yes. Every time Baffert has won the Derby he has come back to win the Preakness. Pharoah ran 30 ft longer than Firing Line did in the Derby due to his outside post leading to two 3-4 wide turns.
Also, there is a projection for rain over the weekend which will lead to a sloppy track. Pharoah's highest speed rating of his career thus far was in slop at Oaklawn.
Look for Pharoah to fight for the early lead and for there to be a much faster pace. This one won't be as close as the Derby.
EDIT: Don't love that he drew the rail, especially with Dortmund in the 2nd post. If Dortmund gets out quicker and boxes off the rail and AP has to pull up he could be in a fight.
At 4-5 odds I would not be betting on AP though he will remain my pick to win. For a horse outside the 3 favorites, I love Danzig Moon in this race - he is training really well and could break out."
