They talked me into it but the salesman was not very articulate. So my understanding may be incomplete:
You pay only sales tax on the phone at time of purchase (sales tax is calculated as if you had paid full retail price.)
You pay payments on the phone -retail price divided by 20 - each month for 20 months, at which time you've paid it off.
They offset the phone payments by crediting you $25 on your plan each month and all edge plans have 10 gigs of data.
You can upgrade anytime as long as you've paid (or are willing to pay) 60% of the retail price of your current phone.
You can get out of the edge plan at anytime as long as you've paid 60% of the cost of your phone.
I went yesterday to get my son an iPhone6 and bought one for myself as well once I realized I could pay off the phone at 60%.
