I don't like to post much because it is almost impossible to talk true football with fans. This game did nothing to alleviate any of our fears but it also does nothing to dash all of our hopes. We have a QB who is really talented but is really struggling at times. We are not sure what we want to do on offense and that is probably not going to change this week. We need some help from everyone on offense to get this going but the tools are there. Our QB has trouble with the third and long but most do and is still not even coming close to running the read option correctly, will change this week somewhat. There will be more inverted veer ran instead of trying to get him out of the box. There will be some easier drop down checks on third and longs early in the game. Will that correct those problems, don't know but it is something we are forced to do. The OL is actually doing ok but it is hard to tell how they will do against tough defenses. The RBs are fine and Barber is running hard and blocking hard. The H-backs are young but they are going to be fine. WRers need to push their routes more and then break off when it is appropriate. In other words all ills can be overcome. Concern is there but all you can do is play the hand you are dealt and make a decision on personnel if necessary. Offense is actually not as far off as most think and more easily correctable.
Some posters on here have touched on the side of the ball that is most worrisome. The talent level is not as deep on the defensive side and we are having some growing pains with the coaching and the youngsters. Our starting 11 will probably be okay except for one corner if Lawson and Mathews return. Will still have three difference makers on defense in 1,55 and 28. Injuries have now taking hold because of our lack of ability to get off the field. In these days if you want to win you have to force some three and outs. Without the two coming back our defense may be worse than last year and that is not a good sign. The corners are not physical enough to consistently run man and we are not polished enough to run most zones. 94, 90,59,30, 4, 9 all have potential to be solid at this time but there is a drop-off when they are in. There is no secondary help at this time. So again this is what we were worried about at the beginning of the year and also what he are hopeful for. Can we fix the defense? Not to a shut down dominating group but we can fix it to stop some drives if not all. Doing a good job in close because more of a team defense but having trouble in some of the one on ones.
We are now in week three and we are beginning to have to start pushing for improvement to give ourselves a shot. Bottom line is we are 2-0 and would have had to win probably at least 8 more to get to our goal of SEC title game. That is still within reach. We are all nervous about the schedule down the road but unless you are an idiot you were worried at the beginning of the year. If you are upset because we did not play well yesterday you should be because we didn't. If you are worried that we can't correct are glaring weaknesses you should be, especially on defense. If you are positive we are going to lose, or win, the rest then you are an idiot. Two games do not tell you what can be, just what we have done and if that will or will not work. God speed and be like the players and coaches and remember that we can only control our part.
