What has made so many of the High School coaches that have transitioned to CFB successful has been their ability to adapt their offensive schemes to their personnel (Art Briles, Gus Malzhan, Hugh Freeze). In my opinion this is Gus' biggest issue right now. He's still trying to run the 2013 offense with a young man whose skill set is not the zone read/option, but rather a four-wide spread it out throwing system. Watch just a few minutes of Jeremy's HS film. Almost every play was a four-wide, spread it around and move the pocket passing game. Not a zone read, play action pass game. I know some will argue that Jeremy's been in our current system for 2 1/2 years and should be comfortable and I think that's true for the most part, however, I don't think our current system maximizes his strengths and his athletic ability. Nor do I think our current offense supports Sean White's strengths. He ran a very similar offense to what Jeremy did in HS.

It's like after Gus morphed into the zone read 2013 offense he just can't let it go, regardless of his personnel. See the link below of some of the highlights from the 2012 Arkansas State offense, so different than what AU runs currently, but played to the strengths of his QB and roster. I think Gus needs to channel his inner Shiloh/Springdale coaching days and look at his personnel and get back to building his offense around the strength of his QB like he did with Nick in 2013.
