new NCAA rules put specific windows on when players can enter into the portal
#1. theres a 30day period to enter the portal after a coach is fired midseason
whenever that may happen we will probably lose kids due to attrition
#2 first window for fall sports is 45 days following championship selection (Dec. 5th - January 19th)
#3 second window is May 1st to May 15th
from what we've noticed in the transfer portals of the past (@grizzlyadams16 and @steamroller76 correct me if im wrong) pre spring practice is EXTREMELY important for acquiring impact talent in the portal. imo that means a staff needs to be in place quicker than usual
last coaching search harsin was hired on Dec 22nd. had full staff in place January 27th with Nick Eason as the final hire at DL
obviously our roster will need portal additions
by my count (could be wrong for sure, im terrible at math) our roster could drop to 60 or below easily especially if kids leave the team with the harsin fiasco, add 8 commits to the HS class. roster of 68 is not gonna cut it in the SEC and we will have serious depth issues (everyone knows that)
all these factors could contribute to expediting the coaching search because the portal is vital to being semi competitive next year. we'd need a full staff in place very very quickly (immediately after the iron bowl 11/26 tbh) to compete in these portal recruiting battles
