With drivel season winding down but also in the middle of summer concert season...I wanted to detail the best concerts I have even attended with a top 10 list.
Too long, don't want to read - Chris Cornell at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Charlotte in 2016 is #3
Why it is special - This is going to be LONG folks, I apologize in advance
Chris Cornell is my favorite musician of all time. I think he is the most talented singer and song writer of my generation and should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on his own. Every band he is a part of is incredible and he has a catalog that stands out to this day. Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Audioslave plus his solo stuff are all incredible. He wrote the greatest Bond song of all time. He stands out in a grunge era that includes some of the greatest musical game changers in history.
This show was just Chris and a guitar...most of it was an acoustic guitar as well. No drums, no bass...just Chris on some other dude who helped him out. It was so basic and so pure. It felt like a VH1 storytellers if you remember that show back in the day. He would play and song and talk to the audience about the background or the history of it. He would tell jokes, he would talk with the audience. It was like we were watching a friend at a local bar playing and not a legendary musician playing to 2000 people.
I had seen Chris prior doing an electric solo performance and once with Soundgarden. Both of those shows were in larger venues and while they were great...they did not have the intimate feeling of this show. I knew immediately it was going to be special. I knew after 5 songs it was going to be amazing, when I left I knew it was one of the greatest concerts I had ever seen and it was literally one guy on a stage...he is THAT great an artist.
I saw Soundgarden play two weeks before Chris killed himself. It was a great show, you would have never known he was in such a bad place at the time. To this day he is the only celebrity I have been emotional over his passing. I am still to this day angry about it but I am very thankful that I got to see him perform 4 times and even more thankful that I got to see this show.
Highlights - I am going to post a few videos in case some of you have not seen him play these songs

2 Beatles covers - did I mention I love covers yet
2 Bob Dylan Covers
Seasons!!!!!!
Say Hello to Heaven, Hunger Strike, Wooden Jesus
RIVER OF DECEIT - I LOST MY FREAKING MIND WHEN THIS ONE STARTED UP!!!!!!!

Setlist
Odd Memory
I wasn't supposed to go to this show. The same week my buddy and I had tickets to go see Pearl Jam in Raleigh. Some of you may remember the North Carolina legislature creating a bathroom bill 7 years ago and it may seem odd I am mentioning it in the context of my greatest concerts but Pearl Jam cancelled the show a week prior because of that bathroom bill. So I brought up this show to my buddy and he was on board seeing it. Pearl Jam would have been great, they are on my top 10 list but I would have missed out on one of the greatest experiences of my life if not for the bathroom bill and Eddie Vedder being Eddie Vedder. No Regerts missing out on the PJ show in favor of something legendary.

Why it should be higher
He is my favorite musician of all time. This is arguably the greatest collection of music I grew up loving in one show. I could put this as my #1 show of all time and it would be a good call.
