We're back for another week!
LIST OF AFFILIATES AND LINKS
PREDICTION: Thank you, Carnell, for making this fun again.
...
NOT ANDY asks if the fans assembled at Victory Grill are stoked to see Carnell. THEY LUSTILY ROAR WITH APPROVAL.
NOT ANDY asks if Carnell is getting more used to this. "It's one of those things where you have a short-term memory and flush it. We've got to get ready for a good Western Kentucky team."
ANDY asks about getting focused this week: "We've got to kinda be in the moment each and every day. Enjoy this process and not worrying about what's next or what's in the rear-view mirror. We've got to continue to make these memories together. We can beat anybody if we stay present in the moment."
HERB is in the house. We cannot hear HERB on the radio. (I have no idea what the question was.) "Let's simplify. Defensively in high school, I had an opportunity to play a little safety. It's about getting 11 guys to the ball. If you play team ball ... you create momentum."
ANDY asks if Carnell was a headhunter as a safety. GUFFAWS ALL AROUND. "I was. I loved the physicality of the game of football. I love to strike. I love to hit. I love to hunt."
NOT ANDY asks about Raymond Farmer from Etowah HS. "I was so luck in high school to play for Coach Raymond Farmer. He was ahead of his time. He held us accountability. He treated everybody fairly. There was no type of favoritism. He expected me each end every day to finish first, to lead the team. That's where a lot of my ... mindset came from."
JULI/JULIE is in the house. She wants to know about Senior Day. "I challenge the team ... I challenge these coaches ... to send these seniors out the right way. These seniors have been through many different coaches, COVID. They've done a lot."
**COMMERCIAL BREAK**
NOT ANDY wants to talk about how Carnell runs so much during the game along the sideline. "I'm in a little shape. This is one of the first times ... having that feeling like I know I'm not playing ... but my mindset is like I am (playing). It's quite a good feeling."
REED/REID is in the house. He wants to know about what inspired Carnell to be so animated as a coach. "When I got the opportunity to be named the interim head coach, I was struggling early on ... about what coach I want to me. I'm an energetic kind of guy. I'm the head coach now. Head coaches aren't supposed to do that. (Tank and Quez told him to be himself). I prayed about it and I'm just being myself. The Good Lord helps me get up and down those sidelines. After the game, I'm tired."
BUSTER is in the house. He wants to know about Carnell's favorite part of the new football facility. "Ooooh, yes. As a player, probably ... it's two locker room. One locker room where guys get dressed for practice and another locker room that's a lounge. Those guys get to sit in their locker room and basically get to lay down, the seats flip up. As a coach, man, we have a beautiful room upstairs where we can have walk-throughs. That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. With the video and seeing directly what guys are doing, I think that's my favorite things as a coach."
RANDY/RANDI emails in to say he has a ball with Carnell's signature. He asks about Carnell's favorite football item. "I played with the great Derrick Brooks — a Hall of Famer but even a better person. I can remember getting hurt Sept. 29, 2007, and I had him sign my jersey and he wrote some things. That's one of my most prized possessions."
ANDY asks where the Texas A&M Game Ball fits into that list. "Ooooooh. That game ball, that is my pride and joy. It's the first one. I'm looking forward to putting that up in a nice display. Lord have mercy, that's a good one."
**COMMERCIAL BREAK**
LAMPLIGHTER is stoked to have Carnell as the coach. (He is a student.) He wants to know how pumped the fans can get this weekend. "Let's show up and show out. (The seniors) have been through a lot. The character and what they have done ... they have exemplified what Auburn men are like."
ANDY wants to talk with Western Kentucky's offense. "Wow. Whoa. They throw it around the yard a lot. We have to contain them. Explosive plays ... we have to rally to the football and put a cap on that. They throw a lot of screens and get a lot of gap scheme in there. On defense, we're going to have to be sound, fly around and play together."
ANDY wants to talk about Auburn's offense. "I'm a former running back. I believe in running the football. Again, when Auburn is at its best, we play really good defense and we run the football. Those receivers and the tight ends are going to get their chances. We're going to be better on third down. We're going to be ready to play Saturday."
NOT ANDY asks about the OL's role in this tough style on offense lately. "One of the greatest feelings in life is when a team knows what you're going to do ... and they can't stop. That's an attitude thing. It starts with the guys in the trenches. They're playing tough, nasty, hard-nosed football. We've go to win our one-on-ones."
ANDY asks about needing guys to step up ... like Jalil Irvin last week. "It goes back to that mindset of NEXT MAN UP. We're only as strong as our weakest link. You never know when it's going to be your time. At some point, injuries happen, things happen in a game. Coach Friend along with Coach Simmons does a great job of getting those guys prepared."
EMAIL PERSON asks Carnell to describe football in one word. "Serve. I had the opportunity many, man, many, many moons ago to choose an institution. The Auburn family, the way that they treated my family. That left such an impression on me."
"Thank you all for having me, War Eagle."
A confident-yet-humble War Eagle to close it out for Carnell.
Another terrific, insightful performance.
BE GOOD. BE YOU. BE WHERE YOUR FEET ARE.
