Hey everyone. I'm currently at Baumhower's as we wait for Tiger Talk to begin in just more than 30 minutes. Tonight we will have Eric Kiesau, Jeff Schmedding, Roc Bellantoni and Tank Bigsby speaking.
I will be updating this thread once the show starts. If you are here, I am currently drinking a beer in the corner. Say hello! (But only if you like me.)
LIST OF AFFILIATES AND LINKS
Brad Law is getting the crowd warmed up with a knock knock joke, which he admits is a Dad joke.
(I asked Andy and Not Andy if I could ask Roc a question if he takes them.)
- Food truck Friday tomorrow in downtown Auburn.
Jeff Schmedding is here
- Is there a difference in the way you coach players from the West Coast and from the South? "You just got to be you."
- We have some really good players out there.
- On Penn State's run game: "It is very similar to last season. They have some veteran offensive linemen coming back." Mentions how they are very well coached.
- On secondary: "Those guys are out on islands." Mentions how good of a job Coach Etheridge does with those guys.
- Says Penn State reloaded at the wide receiver position.
- On Jaylin, Nehemiah, Keionte: "Competition is the central thing in that room. I'm excited about the room and I'm excited about the competition."
- On pressuring Clifford compared to last year: "You have to mix it up. I like our front ... Our guys are ready to get after the quarterback."
ERIC KIESAU
- He's excited about this week. Says the team has been circling this on the calendar for some time. "You have to be in the moment."
- Focus is the key word for this week.
- On approaching this kind of atmosphere: "You have to paint the pictures for the players." The Xs and Os are important, but you have to discuss what is all going on.
- On QBs running ability: "TJ is more of pro style. Robby is more of your third running back. It makes it difficult for defensive coordinators to defend."
- His favorite thing about Auburn? "I've been at a lot of universities. There's something about Auburn. Here at Auburn, when you talk about the people, it is real."
- Says he has been places where people have Auburn connections and the genuine vibe is amazing.
- Have a plan going into the game but whoever gets hot (RB, QB, WR, etc...) is going to stay.
- Penn State defense is the best they have seen this year. D-line is really good. Mentions there is a player in their secondary that is a first-round draft pick.
- On running the ball: "It is important to set the tone through the run game."
- If Penn State puts extra guy in box: "Do I have to give secrets away?" - Kiesau jokes. Mentions using Ashford.
- On Shed: "I love that guy." On Var: "He's a little sneaky. He can hit the big play."
- On first afternoon game affecting schedule: "Not at all."
- Offensive keys: "We have to stay focused. The schemes are there. The players are there. We have to run the ball. Get Tank going. Get Jarquez going. Get Robby going ... I'm so exciting about this challenge."
ROC BELLANTONI
- On getting connected with Harsin: "I really didn't know anyone on staff. I got very lucky."
- "You have to be organized. You have to have a routine." - On being EDGE and special teams coach.
- "We sleep a lot better at night." - talking about having Anders Carlson and Oscar Chapman, not to mention Quattlebaum.
- "They get coached like the EDGE guys. It's a little more intense than a kicking coach." - On coaching EDGE and then kickers.
- "We play in the greatest conference in college football .. Your best players have to play special teams." - mentions how a recent Heisman Trophy winner was a big guy on special team.
- Wants to get these guys experience on special teams because it helps getting into the NFL.
- Keionte has been a pleasant surprise.
- On getting to Sean Clifford: "If we get after the passer, we will be a much better defense:"
TANK BIGSBY
- "I'm so thankful for you guys." - on the support tonight
- "It's an unexplainable feeling walking on the field ... You step on that field and you get chills."
- On hardest thing from high school to college: "It was a challenge doing new things. Caddy got me ready. He does a great job with that."
- On relationship with Caddy: "He's a great guy. He's a great coach. He prepares you for life."
- Go to touchdown celebration? "Jump in the stadium with the fans ... But I don't want to get a flag."
- A fan asks him about "GO CRAZY, TANK. GO CRAZY!" Tank just laughs.
- Tank says their fans aren't as good as Auburn fans. That Auburn fans will show out on Saturday in Jordan-Hare. "My challenge is to stick with us the whole game."
- On prep for Penn State: "They have a good defense. They blitz a lot. A lot of guys went to the league last year. I feel like we are the better team, we have the better coaches and I feel like we will come out on top."
That is it for Tiger Talk from Baumhower's. If you want me, I will now be watching Thursday Night Football here.
