Should be a dandy.
LIST OF AFFILIATES AND LINKS
PREDICTION: Lots of nice things to be said about Penn State, no comment on how that university harbored a pedophile during the 1980s, 90s and 2000s.
*****
CORNELIUS WILLIAMS is up first for the football portion of the show. You may know him as the team's wideouts coach and all-around stud.
6:17 p.m. — C-Will says the guys were "pretty good" at practice today.
6:17 — Not Andy asks C-Will about his background. Born in Mobile, moved to Hoover as a kid. Played at Troy. Moved around from there. South Alabama. Moved up to Murray State. North Alabama. Jacksonville State. UAB. "It was all up and down the state. Being able to connect with people from all over the state ... and now getting around guys who were around me as a coach in high school and college. Now that I'm here, what an awesome experience it's been to be here."
6:19 — Andy asks if C-Will's experience in-state helped Harsin want to hire him. C-Will says yes. "Having ties in the state like I do ... that definitely was big."
6:20 — Not Andy asks about C-Will's mentors. "I didn't have a father figure growing up. I wanted to be that for someone else. Bennie Eaves? (Middle school basketball coach) Mentions Rush Probst, his coaching ability. "Position coaches along the way, Tony Franklin, Neal Brown, Coach Clark, Bobby Wallace, Chris Hatcher. All of those guys in some way have helped me out and I'm appreciative."
6:22 — Andy asks about the team's wideouts. "We were immature. We were all trying to learn the new offense, the new ways to do things. As we continued on and got through the summer, guys understand a lot better how we want things, the expectations. The biggest thing we talked about was creating an edge in this group. I want an unselfish group. I want guys ... who play their butts off -- even when they don't have the ball."
6:24 — Not Andy asks about the role wideouts will play this week. "Guys in this group want to be big-time players and show what they can do. The main thing is to stay poised. Don't let the moment get too big."
COMMERCIAL BREAK
6:38 — BRYAN HARSIN is in the house.
"I thought the last couple practices went well. The coaches have done a good job of, Week 3, with their operation and the things they're trying to get done. Overall, the guys have worked hard. We've got to finish tomorrow."
6:39 — Not Andy asks a very long-winded question about how the team needs to be locked-in throughout the week. "Every opponent we have is different. It's not the same thing every week. If you miss those (differences), that's what shows up in the games. They've got class and things they're working on Sunday night, getting prepared for the week. Let's just get to Tuesday and make sure we're ready for that. We're taking the week in each stage ... that helps us get ready for Friday night and then Saturday and you're ready to play."
6:41 — Andy wants to talk about CROWD NOISE at Penn State. "We've got our speakers at 10. (NOT ELEVEN?) I think we blew an amp today. (HA HA). You're not going to simulate ... all the people. There's momentum that happens in games. Nobody is cheering for you on the road; that's just part of it. The ball doesn't care where you play. There's something about going on the road that guys who enjoy playing and competing ... they love it."
6:43 — Brent in Birmingham asks a question via the internet about the penalty on the goal line last week. "As we get down there ... they were loud. The biggest thing is paying attention to the clock, getting the plays in on time. It's not just the QB. Those things came up and you learn from them. We've got to have urgency down there. You've got to execute your plan and take care of things that you know will help make you successful down there. Wisconsin hurt themselves (near the goal line.) For us, it's focusing on what we need to do to not let that happen."
COMMERCIAL BREAK
6:48 – Julie/Juli emails in to ask about the FG block and why Zakoby was losing his shit before that ... "Really good observation. Zakoby, he's an emotional player. He was just telling guys to get back. He's looking down the line to make sure we're not offside. He was getting their attention. He was getting guys to back up. We wouldn't have gotten that touchdown if we'd gotten a penalty."
6:49 — Not Andy asks about the PSU defense. "I think they're fast. I think they're physical. We have to do a good job in the front seven. We've got to be able to run the ball. We've got to be able to protect the passer. We've got to put them in a back-pedal so we can create some separation. It's all about us on offense. They're going to make plays. They're going to have an extra hat in there that our tailback is going to have to make him miss. That's been the message. We've got to take care of our business and hang onto the football and finish drives."
6:51 — Not Andy asks about PSU's third-down defense. "I think the players themselves, they seem to have a good Football IQ. The teams they've played also have hurt themselves. We just have to communicate. We've got to ... do things to make sure we're extending drives on third down."
6:55 — Andy asks about this being a road game and what this means for Sir Bryan, especially with quarterbacks. "It's going to be more difficult for him to communicate to the players, the O-line. Those are things you have to factor in on the road. It starts in pre-game. Everybody is talking to you. That's what comes with being on the road. You have to prepare for that throughout the week. We bus to Columbus. (THANKS, ALLEN.) Then we fly. We'll stay in a hotel. I hope everybody handles it the way we need to. Be excited about being on the road. It's not so systematic. When we kick that ball off ... it comes back to execution."
6:57 — Not Andy asks about PSU's offense. BDB likes the tailbacks and the quarterback. "They use tempo, they go fast. It's really just about one play at a time. Whatever happened on that play, get back to the process. Get your eyes to the sideline. There's not much time to process what just happened; just get on to the next play. We're going to have our opportunities to make a play on the ball — when we do, we've got to make that."
6:58 — Andy asks about pressure since there will be a lot of eyes on them. "We have a lot of eyes on all of our games."
BDB finishes with an optimistic, friendly "War Eagle."
