Hello, I am your host for the night of Tiger Talk. My name is Brian Stultz and you might know me as the person who loves Angela Lansbury more than most normal people.
Anyhoo, stay tuned for all of the highlights.
*** Let's get weird tonight.
*** Andy Burcham is here. Head football coach Hugh Freeze previews the trip to Vanderbilt. Gunner Britton, Alex McPherson, Payton Thorne and Elijah McAlister are also on tonight. So is Johnnie Harris and Bruce Pearl.
*** Coming up? Hugh.
*** Not Andy asks Hugh about the way the team came back to practice after the win. "I thought yesterday was really good. We'll see how the rest of the week goes. I thought the energy was good."
*** Not Andy asks about fast and free. Mentions the outfits wore during Tiger Talk. "It was free dress. I told them what they would wear to a date." Hugh said he wore his cowboy boots.
*** "I don't know if we will free dress at Vandy. We will probably wear our Auburn sweats."
*** Not Andy asks about the offensive line: Hugh says the room is full of great young men. They come to work every day. Credits the coaches in charge of them for doing a great job with those guys, but it starts with the guys being ready to be coached.
*** Not Andy asks about load management: "It's a long season. Some bodies are different than others." Mentions how much the receivers run more than everyone. And then Kam Stutts love for Auburn and how he wants to play the most every week.
*** Not Andy on MSU film and Payton Thorne: "I thought he put the protections accurately and was accurate with the balls he threw. There were a few things that we could have done better, but not many."
*** Hugh mentions that they lessened the amount that the wide receivers have to know.
*** Not Andy asks about Jarquez: "He was late getting to camp. It took some time to gel. I think he has become more patient. He's always run hard."
*** COMMERCIAL BREAK
*** Apparently to a commercial, this has been the hottest summer on record. I'm not so sure about that.
*** We are back. Auburn AV is apparently good at installing home entertainment centers.
*** On the red-zone defense being ranked No. 1 in SEC: "I think it is huge. I think it is a big stat. It's disappointing we have that stat and haven't won more games, unfortunately. (Little Guffaw by Hugh.)"
*** On Ron Roberts: "I think he has the ability to adjust and he does a great job at that."
*** On Vandy receivers: "Well, 14 is really good. Not that the others aren't good, but 14 is really good. (Will Sheppard)
*** Vandy running game: "If you go back to when they were having success throwing, it was wide zone."
*** "We are as healthy as we have been all season on defense right now."
*** Jake Levant: "Incredible young man. I don't think there is any more qualified candidate for this award."
*** On Jaylin Simpson: "He's had a very good year and hopefully that will continue. He's worthy of that semifinalist award."
*** On Vandy defense: "Two really solid defensive linemen that get after it. Their nickel is really really good. They are very sound at what they do."
*** Not Andy asks the 20th straight question, this time on 1st down on offense last week: "Our kids executed them."
*** And lastly, Auburn special teams: We've given up a couple of explosive runs in the kickoff game but that's the only thing we have done that is negative. We have a kicker that can get us points.
*** Not Andy ends it with a War Eagle and Hugh responds with War Eagle.
*** Charles Barkley Redmont Vodka ad. I think I shall have one.
*** Should I submit a question?
*** Andy asks Payton Thorne on the outlook: "It's a lot better coming off a win and playing well. It's onto the next one."
*** Andy asks Thorne about tempo: "We had talked about playing with tempo and I was all for that. Just get up there and have fun."
*** On protection up front: "They've been working all year."
*** Andy asks Thorne about 11-12 receivers catching a ball: "You never realize it during the game, but it's a good thing. It's good to see. We are moving the right direction int hat area."
*** Andy asks Thorne what he learned from Saturday's game? Thorne mentions only scoring 3 points in the second half. "That's certainly something we can improve on."
*** Now Andy is talking to Alex McPherson. He wore his brother's jersey last week during Tiger Walk. Paid his brother back who wore his last year.
*** Andy asks Alex about his routine when team gets to 50. "I take it easier when they are at the 50 but when they get to the 40..."
*** Andy asks how much feedback he gets from kicking in the net: "I can definitely feel how the ball is going to be."
*** Andy asks where Alex's power comes from: "My leg speed. I compare it to golfers. They aren't always the biggest guys that hit it further."
*** COMMERCIAL BREAK!
*** Andy now is talking to Gunner Britton. How did he interpret the fast and free motto from Hugh? "The next play is the most important play."
*** Was it a relief to win? "I hate losing more than I love winning. Now, we won, and now let's go see what Vanderbilt has to offer."
*** Andy asks Britton about Vandy: "I think they play hard. That was the first thing I said to Jake Thornton today. I think they are going to be a really good team. We have to come and show our energy."
*** Key to getting off to a good start on the road? "We have to be disciplined." Mentions the LSU and A&M game where they weren't.
*** Britton on Connor Lew: "This is the moment you have been waiting for."
*** Andy is now with Elijah McAlister: What did the win mean? "It meant a lot. We knew we had to get back in the win column."
*** Andy to McAlister on team's identity of stopping run: "I think Marcus Harris has elevated himself both as a player and a person himself."
*** "Told him to be himself. The best version of you is you." McAlister's advice to Keldric Faulk.
*** On getting Keys back: "It elevated the play of everybody."
*** On seeing his old team on Vandy: "They are better than their record shows. I'm certain they are going to throw the ball. Get Sheppard the ball."
*** COMMERCIAL BREAK. And that is all for football talk. Johnnie Harris is coming up.
*** Not Andy talks about AL.com. Let's just skip past that.
*** Not Andy says the crowd at Neville Arena last night was great.
*** Andy sits down with Bruce Pearl: "We actually played better on Sunday in our private scrimmage and what I was concerned about going into Wednesday was a little fatigue."
*** Pearl on last night's performance: "It was just okay."
*** "I was honest with the players. I told them that AUM wasn't very good." - Pearl "Also said the competition didn't give him what he was looking for."
*** On Denver, Chaney and Chad: 'Those guys can all play. They make us better."
*** On Denver Jones' shot: "Gotta a little bit of a low release but it has great rotation. Every time he shoots it you think it is going in."
*** On Tre Donaldson: "Tre has great leadership ability. I think there was just an assumption that Aden would start immediately. Those two have had a great competition and relationship."
*** Pearl says it is Mike Burgomaster that made the Baylor in South Dakota happen. He was joking. "There will be a lot of eyes on that one."
*** "Scott Drew is an amazing coach."
*** BP says coaches age in doggie years.
*** COMMERCIAL BREAK! Now Johnnie Harris is coming up.
*** WE ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*** Not Not Andy is talking to Johnnie Harris.
*** Two exhibitions instead of a closed scrimmage: "I just really thought it would be important to us to get out there. We have some players that are important to us that haven't played in front of people in some time."
*** On performance against W. Ga.? "We played pretty hard. I think our players are very coachable. I thought our kids supported each other very well. Fed off each other very well. I do think we need more toughness." Mentions the amount of missed free throws and layups.
*** JH did like the offensive rebounding from her team.
*** "I told them I would rather have a shot than a turnover .. But I was disappointed in some of our shot selection."
*** On facing Columbus State: "They have really good guards. And they have more players that can shoot it. It will be a challenge for us to be disciplined. They are going to sag off and try to make us shoot."
*** Tiger Talk is over. I hope you enjoyed my coverage. It was ...
