Been away from the board for a few days, went back to a topic that I'd posted adn there were like 100 replies. No way I've got all day to spend reading that whole damn thread. Thread view allowed me to focus on specific questions or replies and ignore all the side discussions.
That was the huge advantage. The new board has some nice features. but the topic view doesn't encourage occasional viewers to respond to popular discussions. Just can't keep up with it all.
