I think everyone who reads this thread probably believes this country is hopelessly partisan without any real way of uniting, absent a enemy so undeniable that we have no choice but to suspend our grievances and unite against it, or a calamity so great that our paradigms are shaken and none of this petty shit matters anymore.
To test this, though...I thought I'd ask if there is any politician you personally would support from a party other than the one you traditionally have favored with your national votes to be President of the United States if they chose to run as an independent and it was possible for a 3rd party candidate to get elected. I am assuming there is zero chance a significant majority of Americans could get behind ANY candidate from either of the two major parties. I'd love to be proven wrong about that, though.
I think I could vote for Justin Amash. Libertarian AF but more principled than, e.g., Rand Paul. Big into truth and accountability. DGAF about his own personal political clout, stands up for what he believes - even if what he believes isn't necessarily what I believe. Character matters...to me.
Others that I could potentially support: Jeff Flake, Joe Walsh, perhaps.
Anyone else want to play?
