And that's a very bad situation for the driver and his company, when they destroy a windmill blade.....A friend of mine called me late last night and told me to look at the satellite image of that intersection. He was turning from Pierce St/183 onto Magnolia/183. Basically turning right to stay on 183. As i looked at the satellite image, it was clear what took place. He tried to cut through the Shell station parking lot because he couldn't make the turn at the light. Keep in mind he's over 200 feet in length with at least 40 feet of overhang off the back of the trailer. So he approaches the intersection, realizes he can't make the turn, and he panics. He has traffic tied up, people are honking at him, and he makes a very bad decision. He tries to cut through the Shell station.

Now this opens a whole new little yuck yuck. There is no way he was routed through there by the state of Texas. Those windmill routes are very carefully inspected weeks before they even submit the routing to Texas for approval. There is absolutely no chance he was routed that way, especially with a much easier route nearby. If you look at the satellite image of Luling TX, you see 183 coming off of i-10 into the east side of town. You can also see Hwy 80 coming up into town from the south. I think his permitted route read I-10 to Hwy 80 to Hwy 183. I think the driver was on I-10 and saw the 183 exit and mistakenly took it. If he had just gone one more exit, to Hwy 80, he would have had a straight shot through town. Easy peasy.

So now we have a destroyed windmill blade worth a few hundred grand, and a truck driver who was not where he was legally suppose to be when the blade was destroyed.
