Auburn is far from finished with its 2021 signing class.
We know there are at least three spots to fill in the class. We also know that Auburn won’t stop at three.
After speaking with a source, Auburn appears likely to add seven more. Auburn can fill the three remaining spots in the 2021 class and add four more that would count toward the 2022 class.
Auburn is looking for four more on the offensive side and three on defense. A quarterback is wanted. So is a running back. Spots for an offensive tackle and a wide receiver are earmarked as well.
On defense, Auburn is looking for two defensive linemen and a defensive back.
Here’s a rundown of the spots to fill and some of the possibilities/targets. Some names are known to Auburn fans. Some aren’t.
Quarterback (1)
Auburn is looking for a quarterback to add before the fall. I haven’t heard any names at this point. There might not be any names at this point. But keep an eye on the transfer portal. Auburn certainly is. It wants a fourth quarterback on the depth chart before the 2021 season kicks off.
Running back (1)
Like at quarterback, Auburn needs depth at running back. It needs another before the fall.
Vanderbilt’s Keyon Henry-Brooks has been mentioned as a possible target here, but I don’t think Auburn is pushing hard for him right now. Auburn likely looks elsewhere for a running back.
One name to keep an eye on is former St. Paul’s running back Jordon Ingram.
Ingram was a late signee for Central Michigan in the 2020 class, but did not play last fall and is looking for a new home.
Ingram rushed for nearly 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior at St. Paul’s. He had several early offers in high school, including ones from Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Arkansas, but didn’t have a spot to sign on Signing Day.
He might now. He's at least worth tracking and would be a solid addition for the running back depth chart.
Offensive tackle (1)
Auburn hoped it wouldn’t need another upperclassmen at tackle, but that’s not the case. I haven’t heard any targets at tackle, but Auburn is certainly in the market for one. Keep an eye on the portal.
Wide receiver (1)
Auburn needs a big-play wideout badly. It needs a guy who can win 50-50 balls. There doesn’t seem to be one on the team. I have heard a name who could be a possibility here, and it would be a huge get, but he has not officially entered the portal. I’ll wait to see what he does before disclosing the name.
Defensive tackle (2)
UAB nose tackle Tony Fair is a target and he plans to commit next week. He has several offers, but Auburn appears to be the team to beat. He would be a massive plug-and-play on the interior front. More on Fair -> LINK
Another name to keep an eye on is Kansas defensive tackle Da’Jon Terry, who entered the portal earlier this week. Terry, from Meridian, Miss., was projected to start for Kansas as a redshirt sophomore.
KUSports.com wrote the following about Terry: “In 2020, the big and agile nose tackle emerged as one of the more important players for the program’s future, showing flashes of potential and even starting two games as a redshirt freshman on the defensive line. Terry recorded 14 total tackles while appearing in eight games, and also made two sacks.”
Defensive back (1)
The top target here is Vanderbilt’s Donovan Kaufman. The former 4-star recruit plans to announce his decision in the next week. He’s down to Auburn and Texas.
The SEC intraconference transfer rule is expected to be made in June, but one source close to the situation is optimistic the SEC will pass it. That would be crucial for Kaufman-Auburn.
Should Auburn land Kaufman, it would allow Ladarius Tennison to move back to the nickel/star spot, a spot for which he’s more naturally fit. It also would give Auburn a stud-filled defensive backfield.
