Rather than continue to dog these kids, I prefer to consider the better receiving units Auburn has fielded.
1. It is hard to distinguish between the top two because there is a lot of carryover between them, but I think the 2004 squad gets the nod. Devin Aromashodu, Ben Obamanu, Courtney Taylor, Anthony Mix, Silas Daniels, Cooper Wallace. Not to mention RBs Carnell Williams and Ronnie Brown were highly effective receivers to boot.
2. 2005- Many of the same kids as the year previous. Daniels, Brown and Caddy were gone. Tommy Trott and Gabe McKenzie were added as TE options.
3. 1969- Terry Beasley, Alvin Bresler, Dick Schmalz, Connie Frederick, as dangerous and dependable a unit as existed anywhere in the SEC in an era where outstanding QBs became a hallmark.
4. 1986- Lawyer Tillman, Freddie Weygand, Trey Gainous, Walter Reeves. Gainous was a lot like the aforementioned Connie Frederick: highly reliable. Duke Donaldson was consistent with routes, making plays, had good hands and was greatly undervalued.
Beyond that, it gets tougher. There were years that only had one or two good receivers, or players with tremendous talent but consistency issues. This has never really been a hallmark of Auburn's squads.
