I didn't notice the Auburn's men's basketball Facebook page was doing this, but they are counting down the days until tip off and each day posting a picture and some information about a great moment in Auburn basketball history. Today is "The Legend of Reggie Sharpe." You probably know what it is, but Reggie hit a 3 points---it felt like at half-court, but it was a bit over (I think about 35 feet) at the buzzer to beat Alabama. I remember my dad and I were in Auburn as part of touring colleges. I had been to Chicago looking at DePaul and Loyola (both Catholic schools) and Athens to visit UGA. Auburn was the last stop. Some nice guy gave us two tickets for free outside the stadium, and they ended up being scholarships section, so that was awesome.
Just being there and seeing that game went a long way in convincing me that I needed to go to Auburn. Great game and moment. Here's the picture:
It just seems like a couple of years ago, but that a decade and a half ago. It is funny seeing all the familiar faces who are now older (let's say experienced). I even see Shannon Weaver's wife (Coach Weaver was Cliff Ellis' head assistant at the time) not behind the bench, not able to look. CY, Charlton Barker (he could play piano, which Cliff loved), Scott Pohlman, Kyle Davis. Oh, and look at that...it looks for NBA/spuat player Rod Grizzard was the closest defender to Reggie.
Anyway, good stuff. Just wanted to share the picture. Like the page and you can follow along. There are some good ones.
