McGill-Toolen defensive tackle LeDarrius Cox is committed to Tennessee – has been since April. Auburn, however, is working to change that.
Kevin Steele, Auburn’s area recruiter for Mobile, has increased his interest in Cox since evaluating the big tackle in the spring. The interest has paid off. Cox visited Auburn for Big Cat in June and received an offer. Cox now plans to visit Auburn at least twice more.
Cox will be at Auburn’s Cookout July 28 and return in the fall for an official visit, although a date has not been set. Ole Miss also is in the mix and will get a visit, but the Rebels/Land Sharks are on the outside looking in at the moment.
As of Thursday, this is a Tennessee-Auburn battle.
Cox has stayed in contact with Steele, as well as Gus Malzahn, who has increased his efforts in recruiting this year (as have other SEC head coaches). Cox is keeping his interest in Auburn fairly close to the vest, at least publicly. Behind the scenes, he’s very much considering Auburn, evidenced by his eagerness to return to campus.
It won’t be easy for Auburn to change Cox’s mind. Tennessee won’t go down without a fight. Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt and defensive line coach Tracy Rocker both are working to keep Cox committed. And so far, so good.
But watch out for Auburn here.
