Clearly Patterson is one helluva coach and TCU will continue to be a strong program as long as he's running the ship, but they will not be in contention for a CFB playoff spot again this year.
In addition to the fact everyone has had an entire offseason to scheme for their new Air Raid hybrid that scorched earth last season, they're feeling the pain of a rash of injuries on defense. This is the kind of thing that stamps out championship runs for teams not named bama, FSU, UGA, etc.

Losing both starting LBs is bad enough, but Pierson is the real killer. You combine his lost with the loss of both LBs, and good teams will be able to attack them right up the gut.
