i know the spring game was a month about, but after having my wisdom teeth removed, I have got around to watching it with some quiet time (it's 4AM) but here's my opinion of what I gathered.
Takeaways from the Spring Game
Devaroe Lawrence and Maurice Swain will be a large part of the DL and will provide a large contribution. Buck positions 1 & 2 players (Cowart and Lawson) not playing in the game doesn't really give a fair assessment of how good the pass rush can be, but getting heat from these interior guys is a very bright spot.
Sean White has to get quicker making decisions to make up for the slight lack of pure arm strength. He did do a great job of commanding the offense at a very high speed.
Kamryn Melton was purely abused play in and play out. I don't believe he will be a guy on the field with the game on the line. Roberts can look like the best DB on the field for a play and the very next play he looks lost. Definitely has all the potential in the world.. Think Carlos Rogers, may just takes a couple years to put it all together.
Peyton Barber may be lost in the shuffle, but he is a VERY good back. He can increase his time on the field quickly by making strides in pass pro. He may be the most likely NFL back because he has a good combination of speed and agility with a little pop. If Roc is able to add a few more pounds and keep his ability to cut on a dime, he may be the next 1st round RB out of Auburn.
I believe the DBs will be improved 10 fold as long as they can consistently wrap up and tackle. Tray Mathews will be thumping heads and is probably the surest tackler from a fundamental standpoint does everything right. Saw him lift 2 receivers off their feet and placed them on their back.
The production from the HBack position will greatly improved on the stat sheet which isn't saying much. If they have the mindset to knock heads, the sky is the limit for Cox and Pettway.
Monty Adams is an unbelievable athlete. When he has his motor going, there are very few plays the offense can make and him not being involved one way or another. He will definitely keep receivers leery of cutting back to the middle of the field on screens and pop passes.
Just with the players on campus to date, the future at linebacker is bright. Deshaun, Tre, and Cameron Toney can all develop into really good linebackers. There's a lot of room to grow in coverage and that may be the only thing not making Tre a clear cut winner of a starting linebacker position.
I didn't know much about Tyler Queen even after his commitment to Auburn, but I would definitely feel comfortable with him running the offense a couple years down the road. A lot quicker and agile than he appears, but the ball jumps out of his hand. May have the most pure arm strength on the team.
