So yesterday I was traveling for business heading back home. I get out of my Uber wallet is gone. Call the hotel it’s not there. I guess I was pickpocketed waiting for my Uber. Check my credit card apps charge for $1800 another for about the same on my corporate card. Both at high end retail, so I’m told. So I cancel everything, go thru a meet the parents type of interrogation with homeland security to catch my flight home and spend basically all day unwinding all my cards, auto charges, etc.
Fast forward to tonight. I get a WhatsApp message saying “is this (my name)? Sorry” I responded with “sorry for what” and then realized what it was. The person goes on to tell me they found my wallet on the street and returned it to a hotel. Also tells me they aren’t a bad person. Sends me a picture of my wallet in the hands of security at a Mariott but doesn’t tell me which Marriott. I spent the last 3 hours googling every mariott property in the area to see if I can find the lobby with no luck.
So tell me bunker what should i think about this? Is this the second part of a scam? Can they hack my phone thru WhatsApp? Am I screwed? Do you think the hotel will send me my wallet?
