I'm putting this middle Woodland vessel back together in my spare time. This is all I have found so far but I will eventually find most of it. I'm digging a pattern marked in 10 feet increments and logging all the sherds I find in each zone. Some of these sherds were 150 feet apart. I have learned that the "Giving Back the the Earth" was a ceremony performed by almost everyone in the village. When the indigenous people prepared to leave a location for a new one, they busted all of their ceramic vessels and spread them over the entire village site. The closer to the center of the camp, the smaller the pieces become. I've logged over 450 sherds so far and I've only gone through about 1/20 of the site. Thank goodness it's a small site. I've started putting 5 vessels back together so far but there will be more.
