Coach Pearl said against that Canty is the best player on the team. Said he should be one of the top 2-3 PGs in the league.

He believes Purifoy is the most talented player they've signed and thinks he could compete for SEC freshman of the year.

He also talked about Atewe coming back and, though Bruce doesn't really know how good he is since he's been hurt, he's hopeful he can help us next year. I know many think Atewe is done for good, so it was encouraging to hear this---even though it might not mean a lot.

Other than that, just typical comments about not being happy with the season and wanting to get better.

He spoke glowingly of Chuck Person. Called him his "brother from another mother."

Sonny Smith and some older players and coaches spoke about what Auburn meant to them. It was cool to see a bunch of guys like Sonny, Chuck and John Mengelt up there together. I've got a picture of a bunch of them that I'll upload when I get a chance.

Sonny said he and (I believe) Bob Davis watched practice early in the year and had a bet as to how many games we would win. One said 8, the other said 9. That speaks to how good of a job Bruce has done.

(LAMP alert) I would also like to commend my almost-5-year old daughter on her behavior. She was the only person younger than their mid-20s there (they said families were invited---so I brought her---no one said she couldn't come) and was perfect, quiet and attentive. Kept asking if she wanted to leave but she wanted to hear everyone talk. She paid attention and clapped and laughed at all the right times. And as we were leaving she said, "But wait, we didn't meet coach!" So we had to track the poor tired guy down for one last picture. She was very excited and keeps mentioned that "Coach said I was pretty."

Anyway, it was a good time overall. Really glad I had the chance to go. And, though I know we keep repeating this, the future is so bright. And all the old timers and Auburn basketball legends are 100% behind Bruce.
