If you don't think you have a good chance to pick up the first down through the air, why not do this? It seems if you get the first down, you get the chance to run 25 seconds more off the clock on 3rd and 22. If you don't, it's fourth down and the clock starts again when the ball is set.

What would be the negative of this strategy from the offensive side?
