How many of you have asked yourself "Should I be worried about coronavirus"? I know I have, and a lot of bunker members have also. The board is full of posts, rather it be about fear mongering, trying to inform, try to persuade its not a big deal, etc. The opinions vary greatly, and everyone is entitled to them. Here is my opinion and belief on what exactly is going on. I am 38 yr old, wife is 36, and child is 5. I have parents and in-laws in their 60-90s. This post is not intended to strike fear, or persuade you to either side of the fence.
So I dont think the question you should be asking is "Should I be worried about coronavirus"? The question should actually be 2 questions, 1. Will this kill me 2. How many could die. For the majority on here, the answer to question 1 is pretty simple, its a NO, you will not die. The stastics are building confidence every day, and getting more and more repeatable and accurate.
80+ years old 14.8% (21.9% of confirmed cases)
70-79 years old 8.0%
60-69 years old 3.6%
50-59 years old 1.3%
40-49 years old 0.4%
30-39 years old 0.2%
20-29 years old 0.2%
10-19 years old 0.2%
0 - 9 years old No Fatalities
Male 4.7%
Female 2.8%
So this tells me, my 5 year old is safe. It also tells me, my 36yr old wife, is safer than me, but myself at 38 and her, are more than likely safe. My parents are stastically in good shape, but my grandmother, at 92, pretty much has a hired hit on her head at the moment. Look at the chart and see how your family members fall in.
Now, lets look at some of my opinions on humans that I assume are fact. (This isnt everyone, but there are the outliers).
1. Americans, and specifically, humans in general, do stupid things. (Think of the guy who ate the infected bat, yeah, he dumb. Just google "stupid people on youtube" and yeah, we as a whole, are not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I mean, there are some humans that are a few fries short of a happy meal. We joke about Darwinism at its finest, but the truth hurts, "We as a whole, are not that smart".
2. Humans are inconsiderate (I see this every morning, where some twat cant wake up on time, or get her hair perfect, so when she gets into the car to go to work, she drives like #3, cutting people off, racing when light turns green, tailgating, running red lights, rolling stop signs, etc... Why cant the b!tch wake up 5 minutes earlier, instead of endanger everyone on the road. Men too, dont mean to profile.
3. Humans are greedy - What wont a man do, to stack the cheddar? I seen them rob, steal, murder, blackmail, kidnap, screw their family, screw their friends, screw pretty much whoever it takes, to get on top.
I am not trying to make this political, but Trump has a monumental task ahead of him, and it certainly isnt anything he asked for, or wanted, but this is whats on his plate, and he has to deal with it. Would Obama, or any other president do it differently? Sure they would, but they aint there now, so we cant say they would or could handle it any better or worse than how Trump is.
I am as pissed as anyone that there is not SEC Tournament, and March Madness. Man, that sucks. So does the stock market flopping (I know it turned better friday), even still, its still below what it was. Yeah, no TP for my bunghole really is a kick in the nuts.
Is everyone over reacting about this? That is a huge question. I had to sit back and think about this, as I dont see the big deal with having the tournaments. That is me being greedy. I mean, I am only 38, so I probably wont die. If you know me, and know my job, well, there is a really good chance, I already have had the virus. I went right into the heart of it, in an airplane or airport for 32 hrs one way, with stops in Korea and Japan. Then another 31 hours home. This was during their peak coronavirus season. I sat next to a guy on way to korea, that was going to Wuhan, or a small city to the side. (Think Hoover vs Birmingham). The guy had came to America to get 3M masks. During my trip, me and 3 other americans were the only ones walking around without masks. I saw a couple, that had full face shields (think of movies about diseases when they are head to toe in rubber chem suits, and full head gear with glass to see through). Me and my buddies were making fun of them, because we knew, that the facemask doesnt really help you to not catch the virus as it isnt airborne, and all these orientals looks like ninjas or characters off of mortal kombat. I spent 2 weeks there.
Anyways, after thinking about this, I made a mistake, I should have been wearing the mask myself, but was to selfish to realize it. I very well could have been the one to carry it on to another country, then eventually brought it back to the US. Now, I never showed any symptoms, but that doesnt mean I didnt have it. Thats the scary part about this virus. Its a death sentence to some, yet there are others who can catch it, and get over it, and be completely non smyptomatic. Im not saying that is me, but it certainly could be.
