Benjamin Russell senior Malcolm Simmons jumped into in this week’s AHSAA Indoor Track Spotlight. Simmons, an All-State wide receiver who signed with Auburn University, won the high jump at the MLK Indoor Classic No. 1 at the Birmingham CrossPlex by clearing 6 feet, 9½ inches, and he won the long jump with a leap of 23 feet, 3¾ inches. Both marks are the state’s best so far this season in each event. For good measure, he also finished runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 45 feet.
