The Kentucky board where I pull posts from is pretty dead so I decided to look around and see what some other fan-bases were saying. You will learn (mostly in Part II), if nothing else, that UNC is still a bit salty.
"Anybody pulling for UK today?" (North Carolina)
Feels gross but I think I am
---
Nah...pulling for that illusive rogue comet.
---
Watching the game, I see both teams are infinity better than UNC. Both teams play defense. Not sure if any of our players would start on either team. Roy indeed needed to retire playing Brooks and Bacot over Kessler and Sharpe. I don't care what Black does as a defensive player, you just can't win with a player who is 0 threat to score. UNC is woefully unathletic comparatively.
---
Yeah, Kessler has 11 points, 4 rebs, 2 assists , and a blocked shot at half time... I'm guessing he gets another double double.
Sigh
---
my top 5 most hated teams dook, game chickens when McGuire was there, moo u, ky, auburn with Pearl. I think dook and the chickenbirds are the two dirtest teams that have ever played. The SEC just plays rough BB and the refs tolerate it. Two sleazeball coaches meeting today,
---
I'm pulling for Kensucky, screw Auburn!
---
IMO Auburn will will the title this year
---
Both teams play really hard; it’s refreshing to watch.
---
Great basketball being played and a loud arena. Refreshing to see this!
---
the discouraging thing for me was watching a recent after game interview with Kessler, and the interviewer noted Kessler's vast improvement over last year and asked Kessler what has made the difference, and he responded, " Coach Pearl"
ouch
---
I hate we are relegated to who to cheer against when both teams are better than us…….SEC teams
---
Kessler (parents) made a great decision. Just turned the game on and first play, Auburn guard beats man off his dribble, completely under control, and dished to Kessler for assist and easy layup. Guard could have drove and scored himself easily, or an easy assist.
1.5 years with our guards and I've rarely seen that. Totally out of control on drives and can't score, or thrown into third row.
Anybody that thinks Kessler made a bad choice, has not watched our starting guards for two years.
---
Leaning to Kensucky. Kessler just killed us when he left and I can wish him nothing but bad things
---
I get why Kessler left. Dude is a stud, and we acted like he was a 3 star player. Totally did not understand that.
---
This is a depressing thread, because we all sound like fans of a small-time program; and the Kessler loss is in fact….a thing that happens to small-time programs, not to the kind of program most of us think Carolina is
---
It was a good game. I enjoyed watching without rooting interests one way or the other. But that Wheeler guy for Kentucky has to majoring in drama the way he was flopping and rolling around on the ground after running into screens and defenders.
---
Hate to say it, but I was looking forward to watching KY and Auburn more than watching the Heels play tonight. And I was not disappointed, the level of play was much better and watching them play defense was impressive but depressing to me at the same time.
---
10 for 12 for 19 on the best team in the country right now. Dam.
---
Caught the last 10 minutes of the game. First I've seen AU/Kessler this season. Fun game, environment, seemed far better quality of play compared to this year's Heels. I'm not qualified to say what if anything went wrong wrt Kessler's freshman season, only that it seemed his playing time didn't match the obvious ability that's showing itself at Auburn. If they stand in the way of a Dook/K championship...war damn eagle.
---
It killed me when Kessler left; I’ve known the family for 40 years.
But I don’t think this is very complicated. Auburn is an easy hour’s drive for his family and friends; Chapel Hill is more like 7, and you’ve got to get thru Atlanta and Charlotte and constant construction delays on I-85. This will be his last year of college basketball, so do the math.
That said, watching Auburn today makes the move even easier to understand. Those kids are INTENSE, and it just looked like a lot of fun. I don’t blame him a bit for looking for a happier, more cohesive group to spend his time with.
Forget the uniform colors for a minute, and tell me which group YOU would rather play with.
---
Kessler ends with 19 & 7, 7 dunks, 8-10 FG overall, 2 blocks, and a brick-wall screen on Sahvir Wheeler that will make SportsCenter Top 10.
"Other Games" (Kansas)
This Jabari Smith kid is nice AH.
---
UK gets to play physical as hell
---
Jabari Smith ******.
---
Aubrurn is crazy athleticz. Makes a pretty athletic KY team look kind of pedestrian. Especially without TyTY
---
That pick
---
KD Johnson is loco
---
UK is having trouble matching the athleticism and intensity that Auburn is bringing right now.
---
Auburn and Kentucky battling it out in the sleaziest head coach game.
---
Jabari Smith is so good
---
Got some KD in his game
---
Dude looks like Chris Webber, size and athleticism with guard skills. He just moves so well, legit NBA star contender
---
Wheeler is a little ****** or a flopper
---
I'm thinking Wheeler is a bit of an actor. He did a double-take on that headsnap twice now.
---
Auburn crowd looks like extras from Super Troopers. Dudes are trying too hard. Lotta porn stashe up in there
---
Bruce Pearl; "I know this happens at North Carolina, I know this happens at Kansas but this is Auburn, we are a football school, now an everything school"
---
Saw that. I’ve always liked Bruce. Dude is all heart. But Auburn doesn’t deserve this team. It would be like KU football being #1. I hate it when football schools put together great basketball programs. Mostly because it doesn’t seem like we can have both (2008 not withstanding).
---
I don't think uk got a bad whistle. In fact, I would say that Auburn got a bad whistle in the first 10 minutes of the game which led to UK's lead at that point. Their fans were going cuckoo for Coco puffs, and rightfully so.
"Quickly Becoming Disinterested" (North Carolina) [Bruce really did break them.]
As a 35 year old working professional who has spent a considerable amount of time in front of my TV since I was a child watching not only Carolina sports, but sports in general, due to the changing landscape of college athletics, I'm quickly becoming more apathetic about my evenings and weekend afternoons when it comes to watching sports.
---
Here's a suggestion: Make it over to Chapel Hill during lacrosse season. Men's team is a national contender. Women's is in the hunt for NCAA title most every year.
---
Yeah I have felt this way for over 2 years now. Carolina basketball is just not the same. Something is missing. I hope we can get it back,
---
I have found myself not caring as much as I have in the past. Last night my son had all star tryouts for basketball from 6:00 to 7:30. Normally I would have set the DVR so I could watch the entire game. Now I just pick it up in progress and have it on while doing other things.
---
"This ship be sinking" is how I feel.
---
The ACC/East coast dominance also looks to be over as well. Teams elsewhere are taking over now which also leads to a lack of interest in the game in general from NC and the east coast. Look at Baylor, Gonzaga, UCLA, Auburn, Purdue, KU. The power has shifted, very clearly.
---
Why do you think so many teams in the last 6 or 7 years have become relevant? Ex: Alabama, LSU, Baylor, So Cal, Auburn, Oregon, just to name a few. If you`re not paying players you`re not going to be relevant.
---
I don't expect the Auburns and Baylors to run roughshod over college basketball. They are having their moment, someone else will have theirs moving forward.
---
I don’t buy that. Bruce Pearl has a huge chip on his shoulder, are you watching this UK/Auburn game? Their fans are way into it.
---
UNC basketball has went from a top 5 program to probably 30-35ish. I just watched a little UK/Auburn and was thinking either of these teams would be up 30 at this point of the game right now.
---
Pearl has broken more NCAA rules than any coach in college basketball.
---
Our program is coming apart at the seams it seems...we are almost a meme
