- PT was just off. Even some of the caught balls were placed poorly. His completion percentage wasn’t bad, but he wasn’t throwing anything deep. But making WRs turn backwards to get the ball, those kind of things shorten yards. He personally ended 4 of the 12 drives with bad passes to open receivers. He’s had some decent games this year – this was not one of them. He also seems to have the Jared Stidham factor, where accuracy drops as the play gets more important.
- Fairweather runs great, but he was 0-2 on contested balls, and also gave up a fumble where he really wasn’t making much effort to protect it. Fairweather ended 3 drives by not making contested catches (2) and fumbling (1).
- We missed 2 FGs, and passed on a 3rd FG because we didn’t have confidence that TM could hit a 48 yarder. For all the stupidity of this game, we would have won if we had a reliable FG kicker.
- Defense was very good. 5 players really stood out: Faulk, Crawford, Harris, Riddick, Blockton. You could argue that Lee stood out because they never threw at him. What do all 6 of those guys have in common? FR/SO. Crawford plays a lot like Richard Sherman, with his hands and how he leans on the WR.
- Special teams – already mentioned TM, but we gave up a long punt return, had zero good punt returns, let the punt hit the ground more than once on very catchable balls… Need a new corch.
- And I know how this one is going to come off. So be it. Last play of the first quarter. Please, go watch it. Watch Izavion Miller specifically, and tell me how, HOW, was there a hold. He literally chipped a guy and fell down, and was called for holding. I’ve seen holding, from blatant to ticky-tack. I played OT. I know what holding is. He barely brushed a guy, and did not extend his hands and did not grab at all. Seriously. Go watch the play. Last play of the first Q. AU had gotten across midfield on a big play, and the ref went for his flag very early in the play. There was no hold. There was almost no contact. It wasn’t a judgement call. It simply did not exist. I watched the TE and RG to see if they called the wrong number. Nope, 100% phantom hold to end a drive. That was as bad as I’ve ever seen, right up there with the non-TD up in Nashville about 20 years ago. There. Was. No. Hold. At. All.
- Building on 6. Lew got a ticky-tack holding call just before the half that killed a drive. Even the announcers said it was weak. In the 2nd half Faulk gets pulled down by his jersey on a Pavia scramble – no call. Then, with the game over, 2 minutes left, holding – Vandy. And the stat-line looks even. Also missed a facemask of Damari turning the corner. And a punt where the Vandy player caught the ball, fell into the end zone, and set the ball back outside; called down on the 2. Outside of Iron Bowls, that game had a couple of the most disastrous calls I've seen, all in one direction.
- Wright and Miller cannot pass block. Both Seniors, all gone in 15 days. Props to Joiner, though, he’s improving weekly
- Connor Lew is a beast, regardless of that ticky-tack hold that would never be called on uat/uga.
- Dillon Wade is a better tackle than guard. I don’t care if he’s only 6-3 and barely 300.
- Luke Deal is an awesome dude, but his run blocking is a dumpster fire.
- We have a G5 LB room, at least JR/Srs
- Stupid trick play was stupid. Also, stupid.
