I talked to a friend in the industry and he says there’s some early discussions between the 3 conferences about moving forward together under a single umbrella. The conferences would not be owned by the new entity, but it would negotiate their entire media rights package. Think WME, that owns UFC and WWE, representing and negotiating the collective rights on their behalf to ESPN/ABC, CBS, Fox, Warner Bros, Apple, Amazon, etc. This way no one poaches any of their members moving forward and they can carve out a good division of their own (the P5 would basically turn into the P2 and the P3).

Way too early to say what will happen, but if this does go down in a post-FSU/UNC/etc. ACC, he says there’d be some redistribution of teams to the PAC (Cal and Stanford back with Oregon St and Wash St), West VA to the ACC, and some hoops schools will get invites (see UCONN).

He also says that they believe this will keep all 3 entities in the 12 team playoff.

Of all the stuff being thrown around, this actually makes sense to me, and I think it would be the best for all those schools moving forward if the P2 does eventually break off. Not a prediction or anything like that, just some good info from someone in the business.
