I believe the redshirt rule may be one of the more influential rule change in the past 10 years. The playoffs and extended seasons has really made player exhaustion a real concern. This rule may help a lot of programs change the way the handle their football program.

Positives:
1) More playing time for more players that will reduce fatigue for starters. Safety
2) Added experience for younger players that will improve quality of play.
3) May help depth issues for the not top 5 or so programs.
4) May help with the redshirt practicing harder and having a more positive attitude.
5) Might make lesser bowl games more interesting.
6) Might give the just below the top tier programs a chance to get more quality players in with playing time promised.
7) Could mean better schedules because of more depth being used.

Negatives:
1) Less playing time for walk-ons. Being a former walk-on that makes me sad.
2) Might actually have a negative effect on lower programs recruiting as the mid level players would get some playing time no matter what school they went to.
3) Might effect some of the redshirt conditioning programs that are geared towards body development.
4) Might effect the quality of the scout team with less redshirts running through their plays.
5) Could cause teams to schedule more cupcakes to get more opportunity for redshirts to play.

These are just a few of the impacts I can see for now with the rule change. The biggest will be a change in focus for recruiting with all players specifically being recruited to play at least some. The conditioning will also change to a degree. The safety issue will be fore front but all these other issues will be definitely considered. Anyway I am for the rule 100%
