I see comments about our offense and execution time and time again and have made some of my own but in the final analysis, it really doesn't matter what offense you are running. Football is and has always been about two things: 1. EXECUTION and 2. EMOTION. The GB Packers are a perfect example of that with their every play Green Bay Sweep. I'm sure that the play calling was about as vanilla as it could get as well. Defenses are eventually going to catch on to the fast paced offenses as well as Gus's tactics so when it does, execution and emotion will tell the tale on these type teams. I hope Gus can still excel then.
For three and three quarters Saturday I saw very little of both. Then, when the play was on the line, we saw a flash of both. It's obvious to me that this team didn't take JSU seriously and weren't prepared emotionally to play them while JSU considered this the "Super Bowl" for themselves and played like they were in one.
Having said all this, I expect our team to respond to the challenge this week particularly after the public reaction to their play Saturday and the "motivation" they're gonna get an ear full from the coaches.
The play of our QB is another matter. His play is mystifying to me as it is to others who know a little about football. If he was "rattled" during Louisville and JSU, then he's gonna puke at LSU.
Seriously, his lack of poise and making sound decisions is probably the most surprising aspect of this 2015 team considering the time he's been around and how he knows the playbook. I sense that Gus is gonna stay with him and still refuse to give White playing time when may prove fatal down the road but at this point, who knows? Stubborn coaches have historically lined the pine at the unemployment offices and Gus may be no different in the end. If JJ settles down and accepts coaching, this team may yet live up to expectations if we can avoid more injuries at key positions. Just my take
