I made a comment the other day that I felt our schedule had been relatively easy so far and I thought I'd look up some basic stuff to see if that was the case.
Among the top 6 teams competing for a championship, the fewest possible games they could have played against each other is 5.
Tennessee, bama, and Florida each play 8 games against that group. Kentucky plays 7, while us and south Carolina play 6.
Tennessee seemingly had the toughest schedule, as they play USCe, Kentucky, and bama twice and the teams they only got once (us and Florida) were both on the road.
Record among the top teams
Tennessee: 5-1 with games against USCe and Kentucky remaining
USC: 3-2 with Tennessee remaining
bama: 3-4 with Florida remaining
AU; 2-4 with no one remaining
Kentucky: 3-3 with Tennessee remaining
Florida: 3-4 with bama remaining
among these, we're the only team that lost a home game against a team we only played once (Kentucky). Everyone pretty much took care of things at home, lost some road games.
The biggest schedule differentiator is both who you played twice vs once, and also where you got the teams you only played once. For example this was a good year to play Arkansas on the road and scar at home, which is the opposite of what you would have expected at the start of the year.
