Watched Cal's game against UC Davis.

  • They played poorly in the first half, were much better in the second.
  • Formula for improvement was big uptick in blitz frequency.
  • They picked three balls after halftime. All three were a function of QB pressure.
  • I think their best player is LB #0. He's smart and willing. Reminds me of Eugene Asante.
  • The DEs are solid and play very hard, but Auburn has at least three guys better than them.
  • Defense is very shape-shifty. LBs become overhangs all the time. The front shifts pre-snap probably half the time.
  • DBs don't look very good to me. They overpursued vs run a lot.
  • Their second-best player (at least on this day) was DT #88, who transferred from Wisconsin. High motor. Pat Sims clone.
  • Position grades: DL B, LB A-, DB C+
