HIt refresh. Will continue to update this thread...
** Excited to play first home game. Jacksonville State very talented, more talented than some D-I teams. Impressed with coaching staff. "This is a quality opponent and our focus is on getting better."
** Tyler Queen had surgery on elbow. Bothering him since spring. Will be back for next spring. Similar to Tommy John surgery. Jonathan Wallace will be 3rd team QB.
** Still has just as much or more confidence in Jeremy Johnson than before the game. "He'll get better."
** Expecting everybody to play including injured players.
** Josh Holsey was a little banged up and didn't play defense against Louisville. Malzahn said he'll be ready to go today and we'll see him on field against Jacksonville State.
** Carl Lawson is an impact player. When elite players aren't on field, things are different, but other guys need to step up.
** Learned a lot about team, players, especially young players in Louisville game. Lots of room to improve.
** When asked what he wants to improve on the most besides QB play, Gus said with communication between OL. Better communication would have prevented some of the holding calls.
** Jason Smith is electric and can really do something with the ball in his hands. Will see more of him at WR. Want him to have a bigger role at WR. Could have a package for him at QB.
** Wallace could still help at WR but will work more at QB.
** Peyton Barber's play against Louisville should increase his confidence. "The guys that are tough on themselves have a chance to be very good."
** Not ready to say Barber will start Saturday but "he's in a good spot."
** Montravius Adams had best game since he's been here. Very disruptive. "He took that next step."
** Duke Williams will play both the X and Y receiver positions.
** Malzahn expects to play all three RB's, possibly four Saturday. Kerryon was a little banged up last week.
** Very impressed with special teams, a lot of young players out there, more talented, have a chance to be good. "Marcus Davis did a very good job (returning punts)."
** May go over to Jordan-Hare Thursday to work with video board running again.
** Good to play in-state opponents. Jack St isn't your average 1-AA team. Got two guys -- Devaunte Sigler and Chris Landrum -- that have played here.
*****THAT'S ALL*****
