Fall Camp opened up with a couple of news nuggets:
- Alex Polston (Oklahoma Christian) and Sam Gilliken (UA-Huntsville) have transferred out.
- There are probably some other transfers as well. Trying to figure those out/confirm.
- Still no word on Keegan Thompson's availability for next season.
- First Base is between a newcomer (Niko Buentello) and two returners (Chase Haecker and Daniel Robert)
- Left Field seems to be a place where going to stash a "power" bat. If Buentello is at 1B, then Daniel Robert would be in LF (and vice versa) with Bo Decker and Chase Haecker as backups.
- Buntello will see a lot of action this year. However, if his defense becomes a minus he'll end up a DH and not in the field.
- Only real position set in stone is Grier in CF
- Ebert looks he's being moved around again. Back at 3B
- Jeremy Johnson (not that football one) seems to be the logical choice/successor for Grier in CF.
- Mentioned in the official Auburn article was a guy named Keaton Weisz. Interesting story. He's part of a group of triplets from La Jolla Country Day school in California. Each one of them signed with a D1 School. Chandler (Saint Mary's), Zach (Cal State Fullerton), and Keaton (Arizona). However, UA had a coaching change and Keaton ended up at Auburn. Apparently, he's a surprise addition both in terms of talent and ability. He's taking a spot that was originally going to Yomar Valentin (signed with Red Sox).
- Valentin was going to be a weird addition if it played out. From Puerto Rico and is super young. Seriously, he was in the Little League World Series in 2010.
- The Pitching Staff is going to be almost completely rebuilt in spots. Auburn added some big (literally) quality guys like Daniel Sprinkle (6'4), Tavo Rodriguez (6'5), and Ben Braymer (Braymer is a beast. Check out his numbers and highlights from LSU-Eunice)
- There's a rumor about Myron Burton, Jr. playing baseball after leaving the football team. I doubt it but stranger things have happened.
- Auburn added a late addition at reliever: Gordon Cardenas (U. of Hawai'i)
